simon.kiwi adventure lessons & hire is owned and operated by myself, Simon Evans.
I use the term ‘us’ often, because its all about the adventures and experiences that I get to share with you all.
Here’s some key moments to my outdoor background:
– Grew up in Twizel, surrounding by outdoor guides and ski patrollers, who passed on a lot of valuable knowledge
– Completed a course in Ski Patrol when I left school, which gave me Avalanche and Backcountry skills, Pre Hospital Emergency Care, and Meteorology training.
– Became a certified IKO kiting instructor, and started working at Kite Republic in Melbourne doing everything from Retail, Hire, Repairs, Kite and SUP lessons, and all the bits in between.
– I have taught Kiteboarding since 2014 in various places around the world, including Australia, Fiji, and Aitutaki.
– My main disciplines of kiting mainly include Freeride, Big Air, Wakestyle.
– Stand Up Paddle boarding I enjoy Flat Water Touring, Surf, and Rivers.
– Experienced and qualified to teach children and disabled persons, and all learning is done by discovery, with safety being the key component.
– My biggest passion is seeing other people figure out how to combine skis/snowboard with wind in the backcountry.
– I instructed Snowkiting for many seasons in the Victorian Great Alpine National Park, prior to moving back to NZ in 2018.
– I have done a ‘bear-grills’ style self-discovery journey, spending 82 nights in the snow using all my experience and skills to stay safe, only getting around by ski-touring, kiting, and walking, whilst living out of a tent (plus the occasional hut and even a snow cave for a week). Im still here, so it was a successful journey, and I learned a lot more about the outdoors than you do in typical learning programs!
– My wealth of knowledge in all areas of outdoor sports is a lot higher than most, and all this knowledge and experience is designed to be passed onto you. I have tried most outdoor sports, and have a pretty good skill level at most, and have figured out some of the best ways to teach others to learn and progress.
